Lesson 6: Real Science! Using Classroom Document Camera
Objective:
Students will be able to learn step-by-step technique of dissecting an owl pellet. Student Scientist Team (demonstrators) will be able to demonstrate steps involved with dissection, correctly identify specimens found during dissection and share presentation with class.
Target group:
Sixth grade science students
Materials:
Document Camera
Owl pellet, tweezers
Record-keeping sheet
Procedure:
Students in each class will watch small team of “student scientists” use document camera to demonstrate and describe dissection of owl pellet, in preparation for individual lab experience. Student scientists will apply scientific method as they go through steps of dissection, fielding questions and answers from classmates. Student scientists will demonstrate the use of record-keeping sheet as they identify dissected specimens. Individual students will replicate scientific method and lab dissection after viewing team with document camera.
Assessment:
Completed dissections by individual students, along with completed record-keeping sheet accompanying lab dissection exercise.
